"I love Big Sis Madison"This has been a busy week and it is only Tuesday. Monday morning our occupational therapist came in to evaluate Autumn. She said Autumn is about at the level of a 3-5 month old so she is not as behind as we thought even though her head control is more like a 1 month old. We need to work on her thumbs not folding into her fist and her fine motor skills as well as working her head control. She also favors her left hand over her right and she said at this age they should be using them equally so we need to work on that and on her moving objects from one hand to another.
This morning our physical therapist came in to do her evaluation. She had the same concerns with the head control and sitting up as well as needing to work on getting her to roll from side to side. We also need to work on massaging her feet so they don't get atrophy. Once she gets the head control down then she wants to start working on her bearing weight on her feet and she has some things to help this. Right now we are having to work on rolling and sitting exercises each time we change her diaper. So, she has lots of work in store for her. The OT and PT are going to get together to see how often they want to come over to work with her--they are thinking about once a week but my dr. has already said he would like at least twice a week so we will see. I will be making a goal list for us and the nurses to have different things to work with Autumn throughout the day--it's hard for me to take all the time she really needs to work with her so hopefully the nurses and my mom will be able to help with that each week.
We also had her 6 month check-up today. She weighs 14 lbs. 6 oz. and is 23 inches long. I checked what Madison and Gage was at her age and Madison was 18 lbs. and 26 inches and Gage was only 12 lbs. and 23 3/4 inches long so hopefully she will be in the middle and maybe I will have an average size child. :) I had already diagnosed her with eczema and the doctors confirmed it today. It runs in our family with my grandma, me, and my nephew all having it. I've been putting on some cream that has been helping her and now I just have to give her only 2 baths a week instead of one every other day--maybe I can get away with doing three. ;) She did get 2 shots and one vaccine by mouth but again did not feel them--well, she does move her leg but does not react at all as far as making a face or crying. So, it was a very eventful day for her but the rest of the week she gets to just relax (well, kind of).

Making time for all the developmental exercises can be really tough. Plus it gets hard because sometimes all you want to do is the "normal" parent/baby things like holding her. Instead you have to look at everything as having a developmental purpose.
Perhaps you can start up a game to play during every diaper change so she thinks her exercises are fun?
We only get 12 ties a month. :o( So we have to wash and reuse. At our morning trach care we just clean around her stoma and replace the drain sponge. Mac has really sensitive skin, so we have to make sure she stays pretty clean and dry. The PM trach care is when we replace the ties, clean her neck and stoma, and replace the drain sponge again.
What a BEAUTIFUL picture! That is my desktop background now. Well, it always is one of Autumn or Madison, Gage and Autumn but that has to be one of my all time favorites of her! She is really growing. I'm gonna have to save up to get me an airplane ticket to get there soon! I miss all of you so much.
