Autumn is doing great with her recovery. This morning they told us there are no plans to do the shunt surgery. They said her head size looks good and unless it starts getting bigger quickly than there is no rush to have a shunt put in. They will just continue to monitor it to see if she may need one later. They decided she can start having breastmilk so about 12:30pm I was there to see her drink her first bottle and she was a pro at it. They did not know if she would nipple a bottle but she sucked it down a little too quickly and kind of got chocked up on it twice. They are feeding her 7 cc every 3 hours which is about 1/3 of a oz. She has done well with her other feedings since then but it is hard to be on your tummy and trying to eat. Once she is able to be off her back then I will probably be able to breastfeed her but not sure when that will be. Right now we are just waiting for her back to heal and do not know any time frame of when we may be going home-just one day at a time.
Madison is sick now though. She threw up twice today and now is running some fever so she has been in bed sleeping all day and will not be allowed to go see Autumn until she is symptom free for 24 hours.
My husband has been so wonderful through all of this. I am glad he is so laid back because he handles her apnea episodes with no problem and has been wanting to stay by his daughter's side. I think he has only been away from Autumn for about 6 hours total since she has been born. He has also started having his back pains again so he is in some pain and trying to sleep on the uncomforatble couch in the hospital. Tomorrow he decided he would finally take a long break and come here for a big lunch we are having and then stay around and watch the Cowboy game on TV. I guess that is when us girls will use our time to go see Miss Autumn. My friends are also planning to come visit Autumn tomorrow in the hospital so I can not wait to be able to show her off to them.
Well, off to pump.
